Project summary

We are seeking EU-based Neuroradiologists with 5+ years of post-residency experience to participate in an innovative CT annotation project focused on the identification, localization, and characterization of cervical spine fractures.

Your expertise will contribute to the creation of a high-quality clinical reference standard that will support the development and internal evaluation of an advanced AI/ML system designed to improve the triage and localization of cervical spine fractures on CT imaging.

Working independently, you will review assigned CT studies and complete structured study-level, vertebra-level, series-level, and image-based annotations in accordance with a standardized clinical protocol. This is an opportunity to apply your specialized knowledge while contributing to the advancement of AI-driven medical imaging.

Project details

  • Eligibility: European Neuroradiologist with at least 5 years of post-residency experience and extensive experience interpreting cervical spine CT studies. 
  • Workload: Approximately 250–300 Head/Neck CT studies.
  • Estimated Time per Case: Approximately 10–12 minutes per study.
  • Estimated Total Time Commitment: 50–60 hours during the project timeline.
  • Project Timeline:
    • Onboarding & Training: Scheduled immediately following selection, expected around August 5.
    • Test Case Phase: Completion of 2–3 validation studies to assess protocol understanding, annotation quality, and platform proficiency within 2–3 days of assignment.
    • Production Phase: Begins after successful completion of training and validation cases, with project completion expected by the end of September.
  • Work Format: Fully remote and asynchronous.
  • Annotation Platform: RedBrick AI.

Workflow

  • Onboarding Phase: Review the clinical protocol, cervical spine fracture definitions, and annotation platform workflow.
  • Test Case Phase: Complete 2–3 validation studies evaluating clinical accuracy, fracture localization, label completeness, and annotation tool proficiency.
  • Production Phase: Independently annotate assigned CT studies following the standardized project protocol.
  • Quality Assurance: Cases containing incomplete labels or technically inappropriate annotations may be returned for correction or re-annotation as part of the quality assurance process.

Responsibilities

  • Review complete neck CT studies, including axial, coronal, and sagittal bone-kernel reconstructions.
  • Determine the presence of cervical spine fractures at both the study level and each vertebral level (C1–C7).
  • Complete study-level assessments, including image quality, surgical signs, foreign bodies, congenital fusion anomalies, and degenerative changes.
  • Characterize fracture-positive cases by documenting stability, fracture acuteness, vertebral alignment, AO Spine Classification, displacement, fracture anatomy, confidence, osteophyte relationship, and fracture visibility across imaging planes.
  • Place fracture-location markers and one anatomical localization marker for each cervical vertebra (C1–C7).
  • Apply the annotation protocol consistently across all assigned studies while meeting project timelines.
  • Escalate protocol or platform-related questions when needed and complete requested quality assurance corrections or clarifications.

Requirements

  • Licensed or board-certified Neuroradiologist.
  • Minimum five (5) years of post-residency clinical radiology experience.
  • Strong expertise interpreting cervical spine CT studies, including acute and chronic cervical spine fractures, displaced and non-displaced fractures, compression fractures, osteophyte-related fractures, and vertebral alignment abnormalities.
  • Comfortable using web-based imaging and annotation platforms; experience with RedBrick AI is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently within a protocol-driven annotation environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet agreed deadlines, maintain accurate time records, and consistently follow standardized annotation guidelines.
